Borderland Europe: Politics & Motion Pictures
Welcome to Politics & Motion Pictures, a creative space where young people from across Europe come together to explore storytelling, collaboration, and self-expression through the medium of film. They learn about Europe’s borders, on the outside as well as the inside, and discuss how what role Borderlands play in contemporary politics, society and their own daily life.
The program introduces the participants to diverse European perspectives on borders through films, political role plays and interactions with different people. Across the seminar, participants move from discovering film techniques and experimenting with story ideas to planning, shooting, and editing their own projects. Each stage is a step in learning: a first frame, a storyboard, a scene coming to life, a final cut revealing new perspectives. Through this process, participants encounter not only European boundaries, but physical limits, personal comfort zones, and real-life societal challenges. Working together to navigate these boundaries encourages problem-solving, creative thinking, and practical project management, while also fostering empathy and awareness of diverse experiences.
By engaging fully in the production process, participants develop technical skills, teamwork, and confidence, as well as the ability to reflect on themselves, their communities, and the world around them. The seminar becomes a space not only to create films, but to explore perspectives from European Borderlands, to share their own and other stories, and to translate personal and collective experiences into visual narratives.
